The Covenant est une énorme surprise. Un film de guerre à la fois brutal, humain et incroyablement immersif, inspiré d’une histoire vraie. On suit une unité américaine spécialisée dans la détection d’explosifs en Afghanistan, accompagnée d’Ahmed, leur traducteur afghan. Après une attaque particulièrement violente des Talibans, seuls Ahmed et John, un soldat américain grièvement blessé, survivent. Ce qui suit devient alors un véritable récit de survie, où Ahmed est prêt à tout pour sauver la vie de John. Ce qui m’a marqué, c’est le réalisme des combats : on ressent constamment la tension, la fatigue et le danger. Et surtout, le duo d’acteurs fonctionne à merveille. Jake Gyllenhaal est excellent, mais Dar Salim apporte lui aussi énormément d’émotion et de force au film. Un film intense, sincère et profondément humain, qui reste longtemps en tête après le générique.
