I actually really like this movie a lot. Easily the best video game adaptation onto screen. It showcases everything the game does and expands on it while providing a great narrative. I like the main character and his dynamic with the kid. That scene with the wave was so impactful and the music made it hit very hard and was emotional. The movie is sometimes very slow and some might consider it boring, but i was really intrigued with the atmosphere and how they did certain effects. They perfected the time loop infinite hallway effect and there were plenty oners that really impressed me, props to the cinematographer. The production design is insane, ripped straight from the game. The actors were phenomenal, they were genuine but also know how to appear uncanny and wrong. Lots of scenes required heavy lifting from the actors and they delivered, so that’s saying something. I liked the chapters showing each of the three characters, and I really like how it shows what happen to the people that never leave like the walking man, their bodies constantly do the same thing over and over. I thought this movie was pretty scary, only scene I’d remove is maybe the flesh rat scene, they really gave the rats some screen time and the CGI was not forgiving on screen. I liked the ending a lot, it lingered on his face and it felt like such a long time, I really thought he wasn’t going to help the mom, but the small movement of him going towards her was all we needed. The 8 exits changed him and he learned he can become a good father and good person, not someone who’s complacent. Also, small compliment but I like the little marching music they used at the beginning and end, it’s a good track that distinguishes a mood and identity for the film separate from the games. Also the intro in the train with the first person POV was really impressive and also a homage to the first person POV game. Great stuff, I loved it. Other than that, absolutely phenomenal game adaptation movie. This will prepare me for the Backrooms movie, and I’m always a sucker for some cosmic horror and freaky time loop stuff. 9/10
Synopsis
Un homme piégé dans un couloir de métro cherche la sortie numéro 8. Pour la trouver, il faut traquer les anomalies. S’il en voit une, il fait demi-tour. S’il n’en voit aucune, il continue. Mais s’il se trompe, il est renvoyé à son point de départ. Parviendra-t-il à sortir de ce couloir sans fin ?

J'ai eu du mal à m'accrocher au début, les scènes répétitives, le manque d'animation, pas beaucoup d'immersion parce que le personnage principal ne se pose aucune question et fait comme si tout était logique. Ensuite, j'ai bien aimé les aventures qu'il a eu avec le petit garçon et ça m'a captivé jusqu'à la fin. Cependant, à aucun moment on nous explique qui est qui et pourquoi ils sont là, cette fin ouverte nous laisse perplexe et nous donne un sentiment de vide.
C'était vraiment bien ! Une atmosphère pesante un concepte très innovant qui provient du jeu, au début j'ai eu peur que le film soit vide, mais bien au contraire, tout est bien géré, caméra, son, musique, nan franchement c'était vraiment bien

J’avais fais le jeu quelques jours avant donc j’avais bien en tête les anomalies et du coup l’adaptation est excellente on y retrouve les même éléments. J’avais peur de la redite sur la longueur du film mais non, un petit twist vient changer les choses. La mise en scène est bonne. Franchement très belle surprise.

DÉÇUE La première séquence filmée en POV nous plonge immédiatement dans une ambiance angoissante et étrange. Mais très vite, le film prend une autre tournure. Malgré un décor pourtant inquiétant, je me suis rapidement ennuyée. Le récit tourne en rond et ne tient pas la promesse de l’atmosphère oppressante instaurée dès la première scène. L’idée de départ est bonne, mais j’ai vite décroché. Ça aurait clairement pu être beaucoup mieux.
