I love books that show more mature topics (ie sexuality and chronic illness) through the lens of kids. I think kids are a lot smarter than adults give them credit for, and seeing how the main character dealt with learning that he had a chronic illness and dealing with the struggle of religion vs sexuality was very admirable considering how young he is.
