This competition reality show has a lot of potential. In the beginning, I definitely placed a lot of expectation on the quality of the games and contestants. In fact, I thought it would be a cross between Traitors and The Challenge. In reality, it was much more like Battle Camp, but without all the aspects that made BC an enjoyable watch. It could be two things: a) subpar challenges or b) subpar casting. The challenges were less than thrilling (what can you really expect from a S1 budget?) but I can’t help but wonder if a different cast would have played harder. Or perhaps, a more experienced cast? I concede that the name of the game is to name The Snake, which means that the winner would probably be someone with a disagreeable/snaky character. Still, this season showed that the attempt to be a Snake (Kethryn ((stupid af)) and Devon I am looking at you) is not nearly as advantageous as consistent displays of loyalty and empathic reasoning. That’s why Frankie, and not conventionally attractive, straight, white, and cis-gendered Brett won this season. Indeed, the assholes of this season were Snakes. But a true snake can adapt and may not even need to betray you to live within its nature.
