Hum ?… ok.
I actually really hated this movie. So much happened, yet nothing happened?? The more I think about this movie, the more it infuriates me and makes me feel crazy for even thinking it’s bad. First off, the technical stuff was at best: decent, and at worst: some of the most bland/bizarre creative decisions I’ve ever seen. The music was so mid and nonexistent, it felt recycled from other movies. The color grade was very muted and boring. For the most part, cinematography was very hit/miss, but for some scenes, the camera would literally whip around characters in a disorienting way. And the fucking lens flares would literally cover the whole scene in blinding light. Does a scene involve the sun? LENS FLARE. Is someone using their phone flashlight? LENS FLAREEE. Ambient lighting in a low-powered news station? Yep! LETS ADD SOME LENS FLARES. Fucking unbelievable. I will say the CGI is pretty decent. Not only with the eye alien effects, but also with some of the action stuff like the car crash train scene. Some alien CGI animation looked a bit jank but I’ll give them some slack since the aliens are supposed to move weirdly. The actors were fine? The writing was not that good? I guess??? No complaints but also no compliments? It just feels like the biggest nothing burger script that’s supposed to feel deeper than it actually is. The villain is boring and super clique, his accent was pretty thick so i couldn’t understand the majority of his dialogue. This movie was also super long, I can’t believe I sat through 2 and a half hours of this. I get that the aliens abducted both Daniel and Margret when they were young, but did they ever explain why they chose specifically these two? I feel like that’s a pretty big oversight and if they explained this, I completely missed it. What was with the piano panic attack scene? What was with the random blonde lady who prays to Margret and she responds with “I don’t want to be anyone’s religion”??? These scenes feel so out of place from the rest of the film and i genuinely don’t know what their purpose’s are I just feel like… so empty after watching this. I definitely should’ve watched something else. I’m really trying to find any sort of redeeming factor in this film, but I just can’t. …I guess the 3 minute scene of the cops running into the invisible house was pretty interesting???? 4/10
